We have set ourselves an ambitious goal: The Lufthansa Group aims to reduce its net CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2019 and to become carbon-neutral by 2050. This is one of our biggest challenges yet, but we are not afraid to face it.
In summer 2021, the Lufthansa Group CleanTech Hub was therefore launched as a new competence center for climate protection technologies. The CleanTech Hub bundles airline know-how with impulses from the global start-up and science scene. The goal is to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, non-CO2 emissions, waste and noise in the Lufthansa Group flight operations within the next 2-4 years. The focus is on topics such as sustainable aviation fuels, retrofits, digital solutions, waste reduction and the mobility of tomorrow.
To reduce the climate impact of the aviation industry, we must must foster technologies, operations and especially sustainable fuels. Their market introduction must be accelerated by quickly identifying and scaling up the most innovative production concepts.
